Company Founding
In 1972 George Stucker founded G. R. Stucker and Associates (GRSA). Building on 20 years of process engineering and project management experience, George began GRSA as a specialized provider of Process Engineering and Technical Services.
George graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1951. After graduating George served as a commissioned officer in the US Army for three years.
In 1954 George accepted a Process Engineering position with the Sinclair Refining Company in Houston, Texas. The refinery was one of the earliest full conversion refineries in the United States. George worked at Sinclair for 15 years and attained the position of Technical Division Head.
In 1969 George left Sinclair to work for the PACE Company. PACE was an engineering and construction services company headquartered in Houston, Texas. During his tenure at PACE George held positions of Process Engineering Manager and Project Manager. He left PACE to establish GRSA.
Early Years
GRSA’s first client was the Exxon Baton Rouge Refinery and Chemical Plant, one of the largest and most integrated petrochemical complexes in the world.
Gary Cadby, the current CEO and principal owner of GRSA, was the companies first employee. In 1973 Gary was attending Louisiana State University (LSU) when he applied for a plant job listed in a local newspaper. Gary was interviewed by George Stucker and he accepted a summer internship at GRSA. A year later he accepted a full time position with GRSA. Gary attended LSU part-time and graduated from LSU in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.
During the 1970’s, GRSA provided chemical engineers and engineering technicians for in-plant services at the Exxon Baton Rouge Complex. The services included production units monitoring & troubleshooting, process safety analysis & mitigation, project screening & feasibility studies, process design basis development & specifications, and turnaround planning & execution.
Transitions
By the 1980’s GRSA was providing Process Engineering and Technical services to Petrochemical, Refinery, and Specialty Chemical Companies located all along the U.S. Gulf Coast Corridor.
During this time GRSA gained distinction in process safety services, including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA’s), Process Safety Management (PSM’s), and Safety Relief Reviews (SRR’s). GRSA was the exclusive resource for process safety services to one of the largest petrochemical facilities in the U.S.
By the late 1990’s Gary Cadby (current CEO) was managing day to day operations. In 1997 Gary called the Dean of Chemical Engineering at LSU to discuss hiring a new graduate. The Dean recommended Corey Sullivan as one of his top students. Corey accepted a process engineering position with GRSA that same year. Corey later became President of GRSA.
After several years of transitioning management to Gary Cadby, George Stucker retired from the company in 1999.
Growth
After years of successful growth, GRSA expanded its services to provide Detail Engineering and Design. The Detail team consisted of experienced Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Piping Engineers & Designers. Combined with an already strong Process Design Group, GRSA now had the capability to take projects from inception to construction.
Key additions to the Company included Mario DeOliveira in 2005 and Garon Cadby in 2006. Both graduated from LSU in Chemical Engineering. In 2015, Mario was promoted to Vice President and Garon assumed the role of General Manager.
With the new millennium, GRSA was well established as uniquely qualified and experienced Process Engineering and Design firm. GRSA was providing Process Engineering and Design services for all phases of major projects from Conceptual Design through Detailed Engineering and Construction support services. Many of the major projects included plant debottlenecks, expansions, process retrofits, grass-roots designs, and first-of-a-kind technology development.
